Oney Hall Pockets Mohawk Preferred Win
Oney Hall earned his way back into the winner's circle at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday (Sept. 4) in the $32,000 Preferred 2 Trot, following a tactical pocket trip before making a move in the stretch and sealing the deal at the wire by a half length.
The set of bookends in the field of six battled around the first turn for the lead as post one starter Perfetto (Dagfin Henriksen) reigned as the pacesetter for the mile and post six starter Oney Hall (Doug McNair) settled in to follow in second. Perfetto posted panels in :26.3, :56 and 1:24.2. Favoured Pemberton (Trevor Henry) threw his hat in the mix in the final turn as they rounded for home. Down the lane, very little separated the three horses contesting for the win, but Oney Hall managed to gain a bit more distance to win in 1:52.1. Perfetto settled for second and Pemberton rounded out the top three.
Trainer Chantal Mitchell co-owns the seven-year-old Deweycheatumnhowe gelding with Alan Leavitt. In 21 starts this season, Oney Hall has earned $129,400 from a record of 6-3-2. He moved his career sum to $604,294 with 33 wins. Off at 6-1, Oney Hall paid $13.30 to win.
