Chiplosive Impresses in Aces Open Trot

The featured event on the Sunday, Sept. 3 card of harness racing at Running Aces was the $17,600 Open Handicap Trot, which went to post with a field of seven.

Stride The Hill (Kevin Wallis) was trying to build on a two-race winning streak and left quickly from post five to grab the early lead from Body Armor (Gerald Longo) before Perlucky (Todd Warren) charged up to claim the front position just after the :27.3 quarter mile.

Perlucky led the field to the top of the lane and posted middle fractions of :56.2 and 1:25.1 while Chiplosive (Brady Jenson) launched a first-over bid, which created a bulky outer flow including Mandeville (Jacob Cutting) in the second-over position.

The field was tightly bunched as they rounded for the top of the lane and Chiplosive began to edge past for the lead while Mandeville tipped wide for the stretch drive and Stride The Hill shook free toward the inside.

Chiplosive trotted strong to the wire and held safe with a three-quarter of a length tally over Mandeville while Stride The Hill held third from a late-closing Rock Party (Dean Magee).

The 1:54.3 victory was the fifth tally of the season for the seven-year-old son of Explosive Matter, who is owned by Terrence Smith and is trained by Williams Hernandez. Chiplosive paid $9 to win.

Drivers Dean Magee, Brady Jenson and Todd Warren all posted doubles on the Sunday program.

Live harness racing returns to Running Aces on Tuesday, Sept. 5 for ‘Dollar Night’ with a nine-race program that will feature a carryover of $2,887.43 in the 50-cent Early Pick-4 wager, which starts in race two. The Tuesday night specials begin at 6 p.m. and the first post at Running Aces is at 7 p.m. (CDT).
