Rotten Ronnie Tops Inverness Pacers
Launching a successful first-over attack mid-mile, Rotten Ronnie delivered on his 1-5 pari-mutuel promise in the Winners Over Pace on Sunday, Sept. 3 at Inverness Raceway.
Leaving from the outside post six in the afternoon's $1,800 featured finale, driver Redmond Doucet dropped Rotten Ronnie into the three-hole through the opening quarter as insider Euchred (Walter Walker) pocketed JJ Scarlett (Donald Gillis) on the front. Euchred set fractions of :29.2, :58.4 and 1:28.4 while Rotten Ronnie made his move with a lap to go and marched up alongside the pacesetter down the backstretch. Rotten Ronnie took the lead around the final turn and pulled clear in the stretch for the 1:58.4 victory by 1-1/2 lengths with Solid Silver (Rodney Gillis) closing off his cover to place. Euchred held on for third over JJ Scarlett.
Rotten Ronnie, who won his first two starts of the year at Inverness, returned to the winner's circle at his home track and paid $2.40 to his backers. Trained by Lennan MacIsaac, the five-year-old son of Malicious is now three-for-five this year and improved his career record to 18-11-6 from 51 starts for Doucet, who co-owns with Andy Stewart.
Inverness Raceway will hosts its final Wednesday night program of the meet this week at 7 p.m., with Sunday racing continuing through October.
