Hiawatha Hosts Grassroots Trotters Saturday
Birthday Money picked up her third win in Ontario Sires Stakes Grassroots company as Hiawatha Horse Park hosted the provincial program on Saturday, Sept. 2.
Two divisions of two-year-old trotting fillies were featured, with both winners clocking identical 2:00.2 mile times to each notch their third career victories.
Birthday Money (pictured) wired up her six rivals in the $21,800 Grassroots division. Matt Bax pointed the filly forward from post six, landed on the lead and made every call a winning one. Birthday Money was a length better than Tea Lake (Rick Zeron) with Gaming Queen (Garrett Rooney) the show finisher.
A homebred owned by Bax Stable of Campbellville and Marshall Bax of Hamilton, Ont., Birthday Money (Resolve - Parkhill Nocredit) is now three-for-five to start her career with $34,580 in the bank thus far. He paid $6.30 to win.
Flirty Dancer ($2.40) delivered on her 1-5 promise in the $21,400 division. Scott Young landed in the filly in fourth and was unstressed for the opening half mile, then gave the trotter her cue at the half. She responded impressively, clearing to the lead strongly down the backside before opening up a six-length cushion at the head of the lane. Shut down, she cruised under the wire more than four lengths better than Fitness Class (Rooney) with Exciting Mia (Chris Christoforou) closing to round out the triactor ticket.
Flirty Dancer (Lookslikeachpndale - Hola Lola) is owned by trainer Paul Reid along with Brian Kleinberg of Madison, N.J. and Rick Beinhauer of Venetia, Pa. She's now three-for-six with $34,456 in the bank.
