Stash It Away Favoured On Labour Day
A special Labour Day Monday, Sept. 4 program at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway will have a top-notch featured event.
The $3,600 Preferred 2 Pace has a field of seven carded as Race 14 of the day with 15 dashes total starting at 1 p.m. Standardbred Canada presents National Caretaker Appreciation Day with prizes from Red Shores, PEI Harness Racing Industry Association and Prince County Horsemen’s Club. The historic oval will also host Volunteer Fire Departments Appreciation Day.
Up and coming driver Jaycob Sweet picks up one of the biggest drives of his career in the dash as he will steer the favoured Stash It Away from post seven. Trainer Kevin MacLean cares for the 18-time winner for owner Reg MacPherson of Stratford, P.E.I. The son of Pang Shui won his last start in 1:53.2 during Old Home Week in Charlottetown.
Century Invictus ships in from Charlottetown with post two from the red-hot stable of trainer-driver Jason Hughes at 3-1 morning line odds. Post 4 belongs to Melody Maker, who has been arguably the hottest pacer in Prince County racing this season with seven wins from 12 starts for the team of driver Dale Spence and trainer Greg MacInnis.
The Backstretch Beat likes Stash It Away on top: “Stash It Away Is an Atlantic-Sired invitational star with a big-time finishing kick to make post seven of little consequence. His foes will have to have some step left at the end of the mile to deny him if Sweet has him in position.”
Also in the Monday featured pace are Midnight Mood (Ken Murphy), Frontier Cruise (Corey MacPherson), Sauble Attack (Brady Sweet) and Woodmere Ideal Art (David Dowling).
