Conrad Scores First Training Win At Truro
Trainer Doug Conrad and his three-year-old pacing gelding Pacific Dunes both celebrated their first career wins together on Sunday afternoon (Aug. 27) at Truro Raceway.
Keith Legge was aboard for just his second winning drive and sent the Conrad trainee to the lead off the gate from post four, working to clear just past the quarter pole in the afternoon's $1,425 third dash for young lightly-raced pacers. Pacific Dunes set fractions of :28, :57.3 and 1:28.2 en route to his maiden-breaking victory in 2:00.2 by two lengths over Gorosiego and Zigi, upsetting at odds of 9-1 and paying $21 for a $2 win ticket.
Pacific Dunes is the first horse trained by Conrad, who acquired the Lazarus N gelding mid-June. The 37-year-old Bible Hill, N.S. horseman picked up his first training win in just five starts.
