Tomas Takes Vernon Open Saturday
Tomas was airborne late to capture the $8,500 Open Pace on Saturday, Aug. 26 at Vernon Downs.
Chateroll (Frank Affrunti) did the early work on the front end, pacing through panels of :27.4, :56.1 and 1:23.1. Tomas (Artie Dick) found himself fifth after three-quarters and began to make his move. Primo Uomo (John MacDonad) popped the pocket and battled Chateroll for the lead. Tomas looked like he was shot out of a cannon as he went on by like the others were standing still and won in a lifetime best of 1:50.1. Primo Uomo was second. Chateroll had to settle for third.
Tomas ($3) is a six-year-old gelding by Art Major. He is owned by White Yeti Racing while trained by Dick. It was his fifth win of the season and his 10th career victory.
Driver Barton Dalious is having a season to remember as he drove five winners on the card. He finished first with McBardle, SVF Cash Deposit, Samsun Of A Beach, Maximum Desire and Party Queen.
Vernon is dark this Friday, Sept. 1 with live harness racing returning on Saturday, Sept. 2 at 6:05 p.m.
