Rideau Preferred Taken By Black Tie Bash
Black Tie Bash has been a regular resident of the top class at Rideau Carleton Raceway and a regular of the winner's circle, too. Driven by Robert Shepherd, the Isabelle Darveau trainee made another appearance to get his photo taken on Thursday (Aug. 24) in the $10,000 Preferred Handicap.
Shepherd and Black Tie Bash drew the outside in the field of five. As the field levelled out, Black Tie Bash sat third behind leading Raising Rusty (Stephane Pouliot) and Mask Of Zoro (Pascal Berube) as they passed the :28.3 opening panel. Shepherd tipped out with Black Tie Bash after that split and took command of the timer. After panels in :58.1 and 1:27.1, Black Tie Bash used a :28.4 last quarter to win by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:56. Raising Rusty collected second and Crossfit (Marie-Claude Auger) finished third.
Owned by Shepherd, the five-year-old gelded son of Chapter Seven and the Kadabra mare Daylon Mermaid moved his seasonal record to 7-1-2 in 11 starts. In his career, Black Tie Bash has pocked $196,308 in earnings. He paid $2.10 to win.
