Stable Genius Gate-To-Wire In Mohawk Feature
Woodbine Mohawk Park featured a $23,000 condition trot as the top race on the Tuesday (Aug. 22) evening card and Stable Genius made every pole a winning one to post an upset victory.
Off at odds of 8-1, Stable Genius settled into post five in the field of seven trotters with Doug McNair in the bike for Stephen Bossence. Among the field of contenders, O'Brien Award winner Gaines Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) was coined the bettors' choice from post six.
McNair and Stable Genius wasted little time in finding the front and handed out panels in :27.1, :57.2 and 1:26.1. Without missing a beat, Stable Genius trotted down the lane to a 1-1/2-length victory in 1:53.3. Mrmayor Hanover (James MacDonald) followed the pocket trip to second and Midnight Miracle (Scott Young) was a start-to-finish third. Gaines Hanover maneuvered in the stretch from sixth to finish fourth.
Stable Genius is a four-year-old gelded son of Muscle Mass that owns a record of 4-3-1 in 14 starts this season with $66,960 earned. With the winner's share of the purse, Stable Genius pushed his career earnings to the six-figure mark of $110,158 from seven trips to the winner's circle. He paid $17.10 to win.
Woodbine Mohawk Park acknowledged Susie Kerwood after the eighth race, where Kerwood notched her 400th career training win with R Liza.
