Knight Angel Hangs On In Tioga Top Trot
Knight Angel and driver Tyler Miller won the featured $12,000 Winners Over Handicap Trot at Tioga Downs on Friday, Aug. 11.
Creekside Pete (Corey Braden) grabbed the early lead but Knight Angel went on by just before hitting the quarter first in :27.2. He continued to lead through a half in :56.4 and cruised to three-quarters in 1:25.1. As they reached the stretch, Creekside Pete was pulled from the pocket and went all out after Knight Angel as Andover Contessa (Mike Merton) made it three across the track. Knight Angel dug in and won in 1:55.2 by a half-length over Creekside Pete, with Andover Contessa third.
Knight Angel is a seven-year-old gelding by Archangel. He is owned by Jaypaul Hoover and trained by Julie Miller. The win was his fourth of the season from 11 starts and he now has 23 career victories. Knight Angel paid $12.40 as he was sent postward at odds of 5-1.
Tioga's leading driver Mike Merton added four more wins on Friday to give him 83 on the season.
