Leamington Meet Begins Sunday
Leamington Raceway will kick off its 2023 harness racing meet this Sunday, Aug. 13 with post time for the season opener at 1 p.m.
The Lakeshore Horse Racing Association has reported on updates to the facilities, noting a brand new timing system has been installed for the racetrack, a new test barn with 10 Lasix stalls has been built and all light poles have been removed from the infield.
Sunday's 10-race card will feature four $8,000+ Prospect Series divisions for two-year-old pacers. The third leg of the series is headlined by a handful of return winners, including colts Watch Your Mouth, Bettors Rush and Jayport Beach Boy, and fillies Cheddar Crossing and Wheres My Phone.
Defending driving champion Garrett Rooney has a full slate of 10 drives on Sunday afternoon, including a trio of Blake MacIntosh trainees in the Prospect Series -- the aforementioned Bettors Rush and Cheddar Crossing as well as colt Macwow.
Leaminton Raceway is planning to host a memorial for Chris 'Chico' Rogers, who passed away on July 8, with a gathering of family and friends in the winner's circle on opening day. Rogers would be found every Sunday warming up horses at the half-mile Leamington oval and would always take the time to talk to fans.
Leamington Raceway will present live harness racing every Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. through Nov. 5.
