Cold Creek Guerero Gate-To-Wire At Grand River
Cold Creek Guereo headlined the Wednesday (Aug. 2) evening card at Grand River Raceway after making every pole a winning one in his $8,800 third leg division of the Prospect Series for three-year-old colts and geldings.
Cold Creek Guerero (J Harris) left swiftly from post six in the field of eight pacers, grabbing the early lead and never looking back as he clocked each panel in :27.2, :57.1 and 1:25.3. Harris and Cold Creek Guerero won with a 2-3/4-length cushion in 1:54.1. Marshall Zhukov (Brett MacDonald) finished second with Scribblers (Jason Ryan) taking third.
Trained by Murray Brethour for Cold Creek Standardbred, the sophomore Dali gelding moved his seasonal record to 5-2-0 in 10 starts. It was his sixth career victory. He paid $5.10 to win.
Delightful Leader took the second Prospect Series division of the evening with Daryl Thiessen in the bike for trainer Melissa Lamoureux.
It Takes Two (Lorne House) was the pacesetter for the mile, leading the field of eight to the opening panel in :27.2 with Xtra Cheese (J Harris) along for the pocket ride. Delightful Leader followed in third up until the :56.4 half when he pulled first over. Delightful Leader led half of the field on an outer charge towards the leading It Takes Two as the third panel clicked in 1:25. It Takes Two met Delightful Leader in the stretch and Delightful Leader prevailed by three-quarters of length in 1:54.3. Holy Jalapeno (Scott Coulter) rounded out the top three.
Delightful Leader, a gelded son of Bettors Delight, is owned by 8113564 Canada Ltd as he moved his seasonal record to 7-4-3 in 22 starts. As a new career best time, it was also his seventh career victory. He paid $2.40 to win.
