Stewardoftheland Wins Tioga's Sunday Feature
Stewardoftheland and driver Jim Taggert Jr. won the $11,500 featured pace on Sunday, July 30 at Tioga Downs.
Even-money favourite Whichwaytothebeach (Aaron Byron) was first to the quarter in :26.4 as Stewardoftheland followed in the pocket. Whichwaytothebeach used a :28.3 second quarter to be first to the half in :55.2. He continued to be in charge and led to three-quarters in 1:22.4. As they made the turn for home, Stewardoftheland popped the pocket and Comet Crusader N (Ridge Warren) went three-wide. Stewardoftheland brushed right on by to win easily in 1:50.4. Comet Crusader N was second and Whichwaytothebeach had to settle for third.
An 11-time career winner, Stewardoftheland is a four-year-old gelding by Huntsville. Owned and trained by Dave Koslowsky, he won for the fourth time in a row and picked up his seventh win of the season to go along with four runner-up finishes from 11 starts.
Stewardoftheland paid $7.80 to win as the second wagering choice.
Ridge Warren, Marcus Miller, Mike Merton and Aaron Byron all had driving doubles. Rob Harmon had a training double.
