P L Ozzy Powers To Preferred Win In Rideau Debut
A newcomer to the Mandy Archer stable, P L Ozzy took an immediate liking to Rideau Carleton Raceway on Sunday night (July 30), winning the $10,000 Preferred Handicap Pace in a 1:50.4 romp.
Forging three-wide from post five, P L Ozzy sprinted a :26.1 opener to make front for driver Samuel Fillion. After middle splits of :55.1 and 1:22.4, he drew away from the field to win by more than five lengths. The Light Speed (Guy Gagnon), who was the second choice riding a four-race win streak, was second-best on this night, with the rest left more than 11 lengths behind.
The 1:50.4 clocking is a new national season's record for a five-eighths-mile track.
Coming off five sub-1:50 miles at The Meadowlands, P L Ozzy was the overwhelming bettors' choice at 1-5 and paid $2.70 to win.
A career winner of 19 races and $211,487, the five-year-old son of Sunshine Beach has won seven of his 18 starts this year, including five in a row this past spring at the Big M.
He was recently acquired by P.E.I. interests, including Jody Sanderson, Darren Smith, Michael McKenna and Shaun MacIsaac.
