Workinitonbroadway Ekes Through At Hiawatha
There wasn't room for Donnie Rankin Jr. to squeeze Workinitonbroadway up the pylons in the Preferred 3 Trot at Hiawatha Horse Park on Saturday (July 29) for most of the stretch.
But there was just enough room in deep stretch to stomp through and prevail in the $5,000 feature on a Sarnia Saturday night.
Rankin situated Workinitonbroadway behind the favourite, Heavy Dude E and Ryan Desroche through fractions of :29.1, 1:00.3 and 1:29.3. With Global News (Garrett Rooney) and R J Hooker (Lorne House) in the two and three path heading for the wire, Rankin had no choice but to try the inside. And Heavy Dude E drifted just enough for Rankin to dart Workinitonbroadway to that inside lane and the trotter responded with a strong rally to hit the wire a neck in front in 1:59.3. Heavy Dude E stayed for second with R J Hooker rounding out the top trio.
A recent acquisition of Rankin and co-owner Chris Hadrian of Lasalle, Ont., seven-year-old Workinitonbroadway (Broadway Hall - Working Girl) picked up his 38th lifetime win and his first of the season in 15 tries. He paid $6.10 as the 2-1 second choice, lifting his earnings to $333,048 with the victory.
