PL Princess C, Swan Captain Take Tioga Features
PL Princess C and Swan Captain won the co-features at Tioga Downs on Saturday (July 22).
In the $10,000 featured fillies & mares pace, PL Princess C was first to the quarter in :27.1. Perfect Queen took the lead heading to the clubhouse turn and was first to the half in :55.1. PL Princess C took the lead back as they headed to the final turn and was first to three-quarters in 1:23. As they reached the stretch, second-place finisher St Lad Bijou went all out after the leader. PL Princess C had plenty in the tank and got the win in 1:55.2. Prairie Magical was third.
PL Princess C (pictured above) is four-year-old mare by Thinking Out Loud. She is trained by Paul Long for owners Jeff and Charlene Long. A one-time starter as a rookie, she won for the sixth time in 14 races this year. Jeff Long drove the $3.90 winner.
In the $10,000 featured trot, Slave Labour was first to the quarter in :28. Tantalize Bluechip went on by with a lap to go and was first to the half in :57.4. Swan Captain made his move down the backstretch. Tantalize Bluechip was first to three-quarters in 1:26.3. As they made the turn for home, Swan Captain went by to win in 1:56.4. Flyhawk El Fuerte came up to finish second. Sweet Tactics was third best.
Swan Captain is a four-year-old gelding by Swan For All. He is owned and trained by Rocco Fava. IHe won his season's debut and now has six victories from 27 starts lifetime. Jim Taggart Jr. drove the $6.20 winner.
Live harness racing returns on Sunday (July 23) with a 14-race card featuring two divisions of the New York Sire Stakes for sophomore pacing fillies starting at 1 p.m. (EDT).
