Red Mile Opens 2023 Season On Sunday
Lexington, Kentucky’s fabled Red Mile is set to open Sunday, July 23 with a “Better for the Bettor” agenda featuring the lowest takeout on Pick-4 and Pick-5 wagers in history along with a rich stakes program featuring many of harness racing’s top horses, drivers and trainers.
Gabe Prewitt, Vice President of Racing Operations, lauded the new wagering formats saying, “We invite the ‘Send It In Army' to take advantage of an industry low 12 per cent takeout on Pick-4 and Pick-5 pools and we expect to have ‘five figure’ guarantees on our Pick-4 offerings once the meeting gets underway, as well.”
The track will also offer the now traditional 20 cent Pick-6 with a 15 per cent takeout. An additional perk is the penny breakage which began with much success last season, putting even more money in the bettor’s pocket which, last season, was in the millions of dollars.
Multiple Super Hi-5s with a 15 per cent takeout will also be on the wagering buffet menu with potential 100 per cent carryovers providing more excitement to this year’s season.
Additionally, the “fan friendly” Red Mile will offer free racing programs online on its website.
Also available on the website, courtesy of Roberts Communications, will be free live streaming of qualifiers, as well as race replays.
The finals of the Kentucky Fair Stakes for two-year-olds and three-year-olds — each event with a purse of $50,000 — will highlight the opening day program with additional Championship Stakes, Commonwealth and Golden Rod splashed throughout the season with racing Sundays, Mondays and Tuesdays with post time at 1 p.m.
