Jackies Boy Wows In Summerside
Courtesy of a slick front-end steer, Jackies Boy powered away for a five-length victory for the fastest mile ever recorded in the first two-year-old stakes of the season during Atlantic Sires Stakes action Thursday (July 13) evening at Red Shores at the Summerside Raceway.
Jackies Boy was pointed forward from post six in his $11,420 Atlantic Sires Stakes A division for two-year-old pacing colts and effortlessly pounced through fractions of :28.4, :57.4, 1:27 and 1:56.4 to win over Merigo Magic (Adam Merner) and Freemans Legacy (Jaycob Sweet).
Cape Breton, N.S., native Myles Heffernan Sr. was in command of the Tobago Cays colt for owner and trainer Myles Heffernan Jr., of Summerville, P.E.I.
Team Heffernan also clicked to win another A division for rookie colts as Check Your Chip overcame an early break in stride to go first-over and win in 2:00.1 for owners Greg and Lucas Bailey of Montague, P.E.I. Tobins Barn Party (Hughes) finished second with Pauls Crown (Marc Campbell) third.
The final A division was claimed by Tobins Chester as part of a Hughes driving triple in 1:57.4 for trainer-driver and owner Donald MacRae of Vernon Bridge, P.E.I. The Shanghai Phil colt finished ahead of Resuscitate (Todd Trites) and Peter Pang (Merner).
The $4,000 B divisions were won by Rockin Your Boots (Hughes) in 1:59.3 and Harry Holmes (Merner) with a 2:02.2 score.
Hughes completed his driving triple in the race 12 finale aboard the Ron Matheson-trained Stealing Bases in 1:58.1.
Live harness racing continues Friday (July 14) evening with the first leg of the Island Trot Challenge, presented by Fox Group, as well as the Atlantic Sires Stakes for three-year-old pacing fillies.
