Update: Robert 'Bob' Walker Passes
Longtime horseman James Robert 'Bob' Walker of Owen Sound, Ont. passed away peacefully after a battle with throat cancer on Tuesday, July 11 at Grey Bruce Health Services, Wiarton. He was in his 79th year.
A member of one of Canada's leading racing families and a renowned conditioner of trotters, Bob was a driver, had no trouble shoeing a horse and proved his training abilities by training champions Nadirs Pride, N V Worthy (pictured below) and Cajala, just to name a few.
Living and training his whole life at the home farm in Owen Sound, he loved the challenge of training two-year-olds and once said that's what kept him coming to the barn in the morning. Bob raced successfully in the Ontario Sires Stakes program, travelling throughout Ontario where he enjoyed the close network of friends and the social aspect of the business.
Beloved husband of Pat (nee Dudgeon). Loving Dad of Jennifer Siegrist and her husband Mike MacLean, and the late Rob and his wife Annette. Proud Grandpa of Ashley, Jessie, and Ryan. Dear brother of the late Jean and her husband Pete Thibaudeau, Larry and his wife Raymonde, and Paul and his wife Brenda. Bob will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of life will take place on August 20, 2023 at the Allenford Curling Club in Allenford, Ont. from 1-4 p.m. At Bob's request, please wear something red.
Memorial donations to the Owen Sound Hospital Foundation (for the Oncology Department), the Bruce Peninsula Hospitals Foundation or the Allenford Curling Club would be appreciated by the family.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Huron Shores Cremation Services, with memorial online at huronshorescremation.com.
