Roll Em Romps In Conroy Invitational
Favourite Roll Em took control a quarter-mile in and drew off to win in the $7,500 Johnny Conroy Memorial Invitational Pace or trainer/driver Marc Campbell on Sunday afternoon at Truro Raceway.
American Risk quickly took the lead from post two for Todd Trites as Roll Em gapped the gate inside and landed in fifth position at the start but the 7-5 favourite rushed to command at the quarter in :28 and widened by two lengths to the half in :56.4. Roll Em let it out another notch after three-quarters in 1:25.1 and drew off down the lane. Following in third, Myles Heffernan sent longshot Rollwithhottytoddy after the runaway leader turning for home but could only improve to second as Roll Em romped home a 5-3/4-length winner in 1:53 flat. American Risk finished third.
Roll Em earned his second straight Invitational victory, following up his dominating performance in a division of the Cecil Ladner Memorial on June 24 at Charlottetown Driving Park. He returned $4.80 to win.
The five-year-old gelded son of Time To Roll is now three-for-five since moving to the Maritimes earlier this year. Roll Em, a sub-1:50 pacer with 21 career wins and earnings totalling $366,397, was acquired from stateside connections by P.E.I. owners Brady Doyle, Brent Campbell, Ryan MacLeod and Savage Stable.
