Grey Sea Soars In Century Preferred
Slight 9-5 favourite Grey Sea pushed for the lead and powered home to win in the $14,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred Pace at Century Downs on Saturday (July 1).
Driver Mike Hennessy secured the top with Grey Sea to a :27.4 first quarter with Blue Star Mystic sitting second and 9-5 second choice In High Cotton in third. Grey Sea snagged a breather to a :57.1 half and hit the accelerator to the backside to clock three-quarters in 1:24.4. She carried her speed through the final turn to stroll through the lane a 1-1/4-length winner in a 1:53.4 mile over Stash The Cookies, who made gains from fist over to take second. Metaki closed from last for third with Blue Star Mystic fourth and In High Cotton shuffled to last of the five.
Nate Sobey trains Grey Sea, a four-year-old daughter of Custard The Dragon, for owner-breeder Seaspray Stables Ltd. She won her 12th race from 17 starts and has now earned $72,430. She paid $5.80 to win.
