Longshots Sweep Meadows Series Opener For Freshmen
A pair of longshots, Andy B Worthy (9-1) and Activation (10-1), stole the spotlight on Thursday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows by winning $10,000 divisions of a Pop Up Series for freshman colt and gelding trotters.
Looped from the gate from post six, Andy B Worthy persevered for trainer/driver Roger Hammer, rolling three-wide to the point. The son of Andover Hall-Penn Worthy Lane widened down the backside and scored in 1:58, 2-1/4 lengths better then the rallying Viktory Blue Chip. Kill A Word completed the ticket. Hammer owns Andy B Worthy with Vicki Lynn Fair.
Making his career debut, Activation (pictured above) kicked past the front-ending Swanstead in the lane and downed him by 2-1/2 lengths in 1:59.2. Fathers Secret completed the ticket. Anthony MacDonald piloted the Father Patrick-Repentance gelding for trainer Tim Twaddle and owner Thestable Activation Group.
MacDonald and Twaddle teamed for a pair of victories on the 12-race card while Aaron Merriman, Drew Monti, Hunter Myers and Dave Palone joined them with two wins apiece.
Live harness racing at The Meadows continues Friday, first post 5:10 p.m.
