Prohibition Legal Returns in Mohawk Qualifiers

Prohibition Legal

Millar Farms' award-winning homebred Prohibition Legal opened Tuesday morning's qualifying session at Woodbine Mohawk Park with a winning effort in her season's debut.

With Louis-Philippe Roy taking the reins, the four-year-old mare trained by Nick Gallucci sat off the pace through panels of :29, :57.2 and 1:25.3 before rallying three-wide past Twist Little Girl N and Saulsbrook Olympia as those two matched strides on the lead at the head of the stretch. Prohibition Legal sprinted home in :26.3 to win by two lengths in 1:53 flat over the 'good' track with a one second variant.

The Big Jim-Catch A Wish filly, who was named Two-Year-Old Pacing Filly of the Year in 2021, sports a lifetime record reading 9-4-2 from 17 starts with earnings totalling $812,641.

Prohibition Legal's fellow 2021 O'Brien Award-winning stablemate Betterhavemymoney turned in the fastest mile of the morning as the four-year-old Betterthancheddar-Whosluckierthanme gelding sprinted a final quarter in 26 seconds to win his second straight qualifier in 1:52.1, catching pacesetter Masons Delight N (:28, :57.1, 1:25.3) at the end for driver James MacDonald. Another Millar Farms homebred, Powertrain, powered home in :26.1 to finish third.

The same connections also sent out the unraced three-year-old Bettors Delight-Sunsine Patriot gelding Leave It To Leo, who won in 2:00.2 with a :27.1 last quarter.
