Speed Strong In Dresden Preferreds
A pair of $5,000 Preferred events played feature on the Sunday (June 25) card at Dresden Raceway, and both events were taken in front-stepping performances.
In the Preferred 3 Pace, 7-5 favourite Big Mach N protected position from the pylon post and clung to a 1:57.2 victory. Driver Garrett Rooney rolled the 10-year-old Mach Three gelding to the lead through a :28.3 first quarter and faced mild first-over pressure from William Ross passing a :59 half. Big Mach N remained resolute on the point through three-quarters in 1:28 but had a three-pronged charge coming for him in the lane. The finish came in time for Big Mach N and he scored a nose victory over fast-closing Kenny Joe, with pocket-sitter Crankys Boy a head off the winner in third and William Ross three-quarter lengths away in fourth.
George Robinson owns and trains Big Mach N, a 33-time winner from 130 starts and an earner of $197,414. He paid $4.40 to win.
Hot Fudge Sundae had much chiller proceedings in the Preferred 3 Trot, coasting to a 1:59.1 victory as the even-money choice. Driver Alfie Carroll placed the Angela Carroll trainee on the point and saw nary a challenger come to threat through a clip of :29, :59.2 and 1:29.3. Hot Fudge Sundae strolled in a three-length victor over Eyes Of Justice, who overcame the second tier to take second with Daylon Midnight another four lengths back in third and pocket-sitter Duke Deo left in fourth.
Angela Carroll co-owns Hot Fudge Sundae, a six-year-old gelding by Kadabra, with Mary Carroll. He won his 13th race from 80 starts and has now banked $90,244. Hot Fudge Sundae paid $4.20 to win.
