Mirragon A Gets First North American Win
Mirragon A picked up his first North American win in the $10,500 featured pace on Sunday, June 25 at Tioga Downs.
Machiatto A went straight to the front and led the field through fractions of :28.2 and :56.3 before picking up the pace to three-quarters in 1:23.3 as Mirragon A made his move first-up from third heading for the final turn for driver Tyler Miller. As they made the turn for home, Mirragon A blew right on by to win easily in a lifetime-best 1:51.2. Thisjetsabookin finished 3-3/4 lengths behind in second off a pocket trip while Machiatto A had to settle for third.
Dropping down from the Open II class off a third-place finish in his North American debut last week at Tioga, Mirragon A paid $3.30 to win as the odds-on favourite.
The seven-year-old gelding by Art Major is owned by trainer Mike Deters and partners Joel Warner and John Manning.
The win was his second from seven starts this year and he now has 18 career victories.
Miller had a driving hat trick on Sunday's card, also scoring wins with Tiger Baron and Crown Hanover.
Live harness racing returns to Tioga Downs on Friday, June 30, starting at 6:15 p.m.
