Tijuana Seelster Takes Grand River Feature
Tijuana Seelster made it four-in-a-row after winning the top $8,800 condition trot at Grand River Raceway on Wednesday evening (June 21).
Daryl Thiessen was in the bike of the bettors' choice as they settled into post five in the field of six. Tijuana Seelster eased into fifth off of the car and continued on the pylons through the opening panel in :28.2. Before the half in :59.3, Thiessen pulled his right line on a first-over advance towards the front. A hole opened up in the pocket and Thiessen settled the mare in behind Toscano Girl (J Harris), who led the field for most of the mile and through to the three-quarters in 1:28.4. Around the final turn, Tijuana Seelster took command of the field and pushed down the stretch to a 1-1/2 length victory in 1:59.1. Downstairs Party (Garrett Rooney) finished second and Bulldog (Bruce Richardson) was third.
Jacob Roberts trains Tijuana Seelster for Triple S Equine of Newton, Ont. The four-year-old daughter of Muscle Mass has earned seven of her nine career wins this season along with $47,632 in seasonal earnings.
