Stewardoftheland Much The Best In Vernon Feature
Stewardoftheland and driver Frank Affrunti cruised to an easy win in the $6,500 featured pace on Sunday, June 18 at Vernon Downs.
Stewardoftheland blasted out of the gate and flew to the first quarter in :25.4. He went :28.1 for the second quarter to be the first to the half in :54. He continued in the lead to three-quarters in 1:22. As they reached the stretch, Gunpowder N (Jimmy Whittemore) gave it a late try, but fell short of Stewardoftheland and finished second as the David Koslowsky trainee won in a lifetime best in 1:50.4. Le Massif (Steeven Genois) finished third.
A four-year-old gelding by Huntsville, Stewardoftheland is owned by Koslowsky. The win was his third this season from six starts and his seventh lifetime victory. He paid $3.70 to win.
Affrunti drove three winners on the card. Michelle Warner and Artie Dick each had training doubles.
In the Corgi races, Potato (aka Poe) won the final. Anakin finished second and Binx was third.
