Stockade Seelster Sizzles In NA Cup Consolation
Odds-on choice and last season's Metro Pace winner Stockade Seelster delivered on a 4-5 promise to win the $75,000 Pepsi North America Cup Consolation on Saturday night (June 17) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Starting from the pylon post, driver Jody Jamieson gave Stockade Seelster his head following a :26.4 first quarter and let the colt by State Treasurer roll to the top before a :55 half. El Rey pulled from fourth to the final turn and blitzed the pacesetter into a stiff panel as the pair hooked in battle to three-quarters in 1:22.4. Off the turn, El Rey levelled off from the first-over push while Stockade Seelster strode strongly for the finish under minimal encouragement from Jamieson to clock a 1:49.3 win by 1-1/2 lengths. Pocket-sitter Hungry Angel Boy settled for second with Gung Ho taking third and Just Bet It All fourth.
Dr. Ian Moore trains Stockade Seelster for owners Sally and Paul MacDonald. The victory -- the 10th in his career from 15 tries -- places him into millionaire's row with $1,032,670 in the bank.
He paid $3.80 to win.
