Lous World In A League Of His Own
World Apart was a Grand Circuit stakes-winning pacing mare who knocked off some pretty accomplished company in her on-track career. Her first foal appears poised to follow in those hoofprints.
That first foal is Lous World, a son of Sweet Lou and a $27,000 Lexington Yearling Sale purchase of Gino Toscani. The colt was a 2:00.1 winner during the two-year-old baby races at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Saturday, June 10, and he returned during the Friday, June 16 edition of the baby races with another successful effort.
With Sylvain Filion once again at the controls for trainer Gerry Merner, Lous World landed in third behind pacestter Freight Air (Jody Jamieson) and Bettors Rush (Bob McClure) with a :29.3 opening quarter. Filion brushed to the top with authority down the backside, landing the lead well before the :58.2 half. Lous World paced home with a :57 back half to hit the wire three lengths better than Freight Air with the timer tripped in 1:55.2.
Switching over to the trot, Twin B Showboat lived up to his name with a flashy final panel for the fastest win time among the square-gaiters.
James MacDonald had the controls of Twin B Showboat in his debut, and he sat off in the early speed in fifth as Well Met (Gino Toscani) powered through panels of :29.2, 1:00.3 and 1:31.1. The temposetter waved the white flag turning for home, with the front five trotters all in contention at the head of the lane. With a :28.4 final quarter, Twin B Showboat was angled widest of all in the lane and got up in the final strides to edge Muscle Detector (Doug McNair) by a neck in 2:01.1.
Twin B Showboat (Tactical Landing - Showstopper) is a homebred owned by Twinbrook Limited of Embro, Ont. and is trained by Francis Dumouchel.
