Funny Fashion captured the lone $12,500 division of the Syrinx Hanover Series, and she did so in a time of 2:00.2 for the tandem of driver John Campbell and trainer Richard ‘Nifty’ Norman. The three-year-old Broadway Hall-Fun For Us miss rallied in the late stages of the contest and pulled off a 16-1 upset over Miss Chip K and first-time starter After Midnight.
Jack Squiccimarri of Hillsdale, NJ owns the two-time winner who bumped her bankroll to $12,864 with the victory.
Three divisions of the Horse & Groom Series went postward, as well, with the opening $18,000 affair going to Fountainbleau Volo and driver David Miller in 1:56. The four-year-old son of SJs Caviar-Blue Water Fly came first-over and easily wore down tempo-setter Major Herbie en route to the driving-away decision. Hes Spooky was second best, with the show dough going to Pembroke Heat Wave.
Sent off as the 9-5 favourite, the Jeff Dauplaise trainee notched his second win of the season from four trips to the track. Dauplaise shares ownership on the nine-time winner with Mendy Taffel of Floral Park, NY. The gelding has stashed away more than $104,000 in his career.
Definitely Mamie was treated to a covered-up trip by driver Tim Tetrick, who had little problem sailing past the leaders in deep stretch en route to a 1:57 tally in the second division. Race favourite Cameron Chip was next best, with Baby Blaze taking home third prize.
Matt Romano trains the five-year-old daughter of Pegasus Spur-Hello Mamie for Howard Taylor of Philadelphia and Robert Reibstein of Wynnewood, PA. The victory was the mare’s second of the season and the 13th of her career. The lion’s share of the purse lifted her lifetime earnings to $158,756.
The final split went to Ice Machine, who fended off a late rush from the favourite to win in 1:56.4 for driver Brian Sears. The four-year-old son of Muscles Yankee-Icy Pleasure took over command at the mid-way point and turned back a determined challenge from Marcus Bi to win for the second time this season. Marcus Bi held on for the runner-up award, with the third money going to MMs Lucky Boy.
Walter Carroll conditions the homebred for owner Bob Key of Leechburg, PA. the eight-time winner upped his lifetime earnings to $161,411 with the tally.
