Douglas Delaney Passes
Longtime horseman Douglas George Delaney of Erin, Ont. passed away peacefully at Guelph General Hospital on Sunday, May 28, 2023 with family by his side. He was in his 89th year.
Loving husband to the late Betty Delaney and father of the late Julie Wheeler (Ron), Brenda Vanzoelen (late) Jeffrey and son Brent (Tracie). Proud grandfather of Meaghan (Mike) and Matthew (Courtney). Predeceased by his brother Gordon Delaney and parents James and Mildred Delaney. Douglas will be missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Joanne Delaney, Marion & Dunc Armstrong, Wilma and Clarence (Hap) Brown, as well as dear family friend Kelley Rosset, and all his extended family and friends.
Doug had a passion for racing and breeding Standardbreds, along with his late brother Gord. Doug's involvement included racing several talented trotters over the years, including many homebreds easily recognized on the track wearing the Delcrest name. Doug's family and many friends adored him. A moment of silence will be held at Hanover Raceway on Saturday, June 3 honouring Doug.
Resting at the Jones Funeral Home, 11582 Trafalgar Road, Georgetown, where the visitation will be held on Monday, June 5 from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Tuesday, June 6 at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Visitation one hour prior to service. Interment at Erin Union Cemetery immediately following service.
