YS Delight Upsets In Clinton Preferred
YS Delight kicked off Clinton Raceway's Sunday afternoon program with a 12-1 upset in the featured $6,000 Preferred 3 Pace.
The trailing tier proved to be no problem for YS Delight as he followed inside starter Noneyabizzness the route then popped the pocket in the stretch to prevail by a nose in 1:55.1 for driver Paul MacKenzie.
Garry MacDonald trains owns the six-year-old son of Bettors Delight who returned $26.20 for the upset.
Noneyabizzness settled for second after setting fractions of :28.2, :57.4 and 1:26.1 with Tyler Borth in the bike. Finishing five lengths behind the top two, Modern Writer and Travis Henry had the edge in a show photo.
YS Delight picked up his fifth victory of the season from 19 starts and now has 17 wins lifetime with more than $100,000 in earnings.
In the following race for $7,000 claiming pacers, 13-year-old Dreydl Hanover earned his sixth straight victory, leading gate-to-wire in 1:57.2 for trainer Raphael Bourassa and owner Francois Morin. Tyler Borth drove the favoured Cams Card Shark gelding, who bested Bravado Seelster by three-quarters of a length and paid $2.70 to win. With a total of 11 victories this year, Dreydl Hanover ranks second in North America for most wins by a Standardbred, just one off leader Big Bad Jenn.
In a milestone moment in the third race, Louis Gregg broke through for his first driving win with John Rier's homebred pacing mare Charmbo Brie going first-up mid-race and battling past the popular pacesetter Azucar Pipedream. The seven-year-old daughter of Betterthancheddar prevailed by 1-1/4 lengths in 1:58.3 as the 2-1 second choice and paid $6.70 to win. Gregg, a 26-year-old resident of Cargill, Ont., celebrated the milestone victory in just his ninth start in the sulky.
There will be no live racing at Clinton Raceway next weekend, but the action returns on Sunday, June 11.
