World Champion Beach Cowgirl Returns
Beach Cowgirl, a three-year-old daughter of Captaintreacherous who was undefeated in four starts at two ending her season with a 1:50 world record victory in the Pennsylvania Sire Stakes Championship at Harrah’s Philadelphia, made her first appearance at that track since that extraordinary mile on Sept. 4 and won her Tuesday, May 23 morning qualifier in 1:52.3.
Joe Bongiorno, driving the fast filly for trainer/sister Jenn and the ownership of Joseph Di Scala Jr., Zippett Racing Stable, Scarlett Stables LLC and JAF Racing LLC, hustled her right to the top and set fractions of :29.2, :58.1 and 1:26, then rambled home in :26.3 to defeat her contemporary Earthwindfire, a winner of $321,484 and the Kentuckiana Stakes at two, by 2-1/2 lengths. That pair was well ahead of the rest, with the third horse 46-1/2 lengths behind.
This was Beach Cowgirl's second qualifier of the season following up a third-place finish, race timed in 1:51.3, at The Meadowlands on May 13.
It will be interesting to see how Beach Cowgirl fares at three after her faultless form at two. The first 2023 preliminary for her PA Sire Stakes group is June 4, a week from this coming Sunday, right at Philly.
