'Allie' Repeats At The Meadows
Southern Allie waited patiently in the pocket, then pounced in the Lightning Lane to capture his second straight victory in Tuesday’s $22,500 Preferred Handicap Pace
at The Meadows.
When Jojo N Goliath and Valentowner moved smartly on the outside after the leader, Biletnikoff, it appeared that Southern Allie might not get clearance in enough time to win. But under Dave Palone’s urging, he clicked off the final quarter in :27.2 and triumphed in 1:52.2. Valentowner was second, with Jojo N Goliath third.
Ron Burke trains Southern Allie, a five-year-old Allies Western-Pershing Angela gelding who now boasts $416,785 in career earnings, for Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.
Palone drove five winners — three for Burke — while Eric Ledford fashioned a four-bagger on the 15-race program.
Live racing at The Meadows resumes Wednesday when the card includes two special Sadie Hawkins races featuring 10 female drivers and the male reinsmen they’ve invited to participate with them. First post is 6:55 p.m., with the Sadie Hawkins events set as Race 3 and Race 5.
