Updated: J. Gary Crowe Passes

Trot Insider has learned that longtime horseman J. Gary Crowe, brother of Pat Crowe, passed away Monday

, February 27 at the age of 73.

Gary was based out of Barrie Raceway and Georgian Downs, and accomplished the rare feat of training winners on both of the tracks' inaugural programs of live racing.

The visitation for Gary will take place at Steven R. Bridge Funeral Home on Monday, March 5, 2012 from noon until 2:00 p.m., with a short service to take place at 2:00 p.m.

The funeral home is located at 207 Mill Street in Angus, 20 minutes west of Barrie along Hwy. 90 (Dunlop Street West in Barrie).

Members of the standardbred community who attend are asked to bring their best memories of Gary to share with the family and friends.

Gary's Family & Mine were neighbours for many many years and the memories are so many.

My condolences to Gary's family.First met Gary Over 30 years ago when we raised money for M S and am thankful for his friendship.

All i can say is J Gary Crowe was just simply a good fella. When my Rosie was told she had cancer he came to the farm to see right away even though he was sick himself to say how wrong it was. Rose an mine thoughts an prays go out to the Crowe family

Gary was a gem - a gentle man of incredible strength, a devoted Dad and husband, and a loyal friend to the lucky. It is a very sad day. Our love to Lucy and the Crowe family.

Thank you to everyone who has posted condolence messages. The funeral will be held on Monday March 5th at the Steven R. Bridge Funeral home in Angus, Ontario. Visitation is from 12pm - 2pm and the service starts at 2pm (also at the funeral home).

The kind words and memories people have shared about my dad are very comforting. They are a testament to the loyalty and respect that horsepeople carry for each other.

To the Crowe family our deepest sympathy on the passing of Gary . Gary and I met when we working as instructers at one of the first schools for teaching people how to be grooms and trainers . We bunked together during the week and came home to our families on the weekends. He was a great guy always a friend . Condolences to the Crowe family at this sad time.. I knew Gary from the time I was a boy running around paddocking my Dads horses at old Barrie raceway.. very sad we are losing our connections to those days.....

Gary was another long suffering and courageous fighter against cancer who I knew for 40 years. My late wife Vera and I met on several occasions with Gary at Princess Margaret as their paths crossed as the endless treatments worked their way to the end.My thoughts are with Pat and the family.
