Thaper Wins Red Shores Tournament

The Red Shores Racetrack and Casino in Charlottetown, PEI hosted its inaugural Deep Freeze Bounty Tournament this past weekend. A total of 150 players from PEI and neighbouring provinces competed

The two-day event featured two 80-player max qualifying Day 1 sessions on Saturday; one starting at 10:00 a.m. and the other at 6:00 p.m. Players were served up with $10,000 starting chip stacks to commence play and the blind levels were 30 minutes long throughout the tournament.

Players competed for a $52,500 prize pool, plus a share of an additional $7,500 in bounty prizes. The winner of the tournament, Shant Thaper, from Saint-John, New Brunswick, walked away with $16,400 in first-place prize money, a Deep Freeze Bounty Tournament watch, and an invitation to next year’s event. Thaper beat out rival Ryan Drake in heads up.

Both second-place Ryan Drake and fifth-place Matt Wilkins made their second major final table at the Red Shores over the past 12 months, having already placed seventh and third, respectively, at the 2011 Atlantic Canada Poker Championships.

Players that knocked out fellow competitors won $50 bounties for each player they knocked out.
