Northside Opens 2023 Season Saturday
The 2023 season at Northside Downs gets underway this Saturday (May 13) with seven races slated on the afternoon, kicking off the year that marks the 125th anniversary of harness racing at the North Sydney, N.S. oval.
A Winners Over class tops the card with a field of five going to the gate in the afternoon's sixth race. Northside's 2022 leading driver, Ryan Campbell, has a pick between 7-2 second choice Norman Fiander trainee Mando Fun from the rail or Ian MacNeil trainee Kiss Me Im Irish from post two. MacNeil also trains the starter from post five, 5-2 favourite Gentry Seelster with Mark Pezzarello at the lines. A Better Man, trained by Joseph Lewis and driven by Gerard Kennedy, leaves from post three while Runaway Mystery, trained and driven by Harold LeBlanc, rounds out the field from post four.
Now under the management of Harness Racing Cape Breton, Northside Downs will feature live harness racing every Saturday afternoon through closing day on Sept. 30. First race post time at Northside is 1 p.m.
