Beware Of Dabarndawgswatchin
Dabarndawgswatchin served notice that she is one to watch with a speedy score in the $30,000 Fillies & Mares Preferred 2 Handicap Pace featured on Friday night (May 5) at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
Four-time Friday night winning driver Louis-Philippe Roy sent Dabarndawgswatchin to the top at the :27 quarter mark and never looked back. The 3-5 favourite reeled off middle splits of :55.3 and 1:22.3 en route to the victory in 1:49.3, equalling her lifetime mark and the Canadian season's record for an aged pacing mare that was set by So Much More in late February.
Stepping up in her second start off a two-month layoff, Dabarndawgswatchin paid $3.40 to win. After leading early, Blue Chip Matchmaker Series competitor Gias Surreal (Bob McClure) sprinted home in :26.4 to keep within 1-1/2 lengths of the winner while Voelz Delight (James MacDonald) chased 4-3/4 lengths behind in third.
A six-time winner in the top distaff classes at Mohawk last season, Dabarndawgswatchin got back in the win column picking up the first victory of her five-year-old campaign to go along with four other top three finishes from six starts.
David Menary trains the homebred daughter of Hes Watching out of the Camluck mare Addison Bay for Julie Ferguson of Greely, Ont., and Lloyd Stone of Portland, Ont. Dabarndawgswatchin now boasts 16 wins lifetime and is closing in on the $500,000 earnings mark.
