Back To Back Open Wins For Lying In Cash
Lying In Cash and driver Jason Merriman returned to the Northville Downs winner's circle after capturing the Saturday night (April 22) $10,800 featured Open Handicap Pace at Northville Downs for the second straight week.
A four-way tussle ensued off the start with Magic Shark, Liberal, National Sport and Lying In Cash all leaving to vie for the lead. Liberal took over to the backstretch before Lying In Cash stormed up on the outside to grab command at the quarter pole. Tripping the beam in :26.4, the leader swelled up as they went to the half in :56.1, facing a challenge from a first-up Magic Shark to the backstretch. But as they went to the three-quarters mark, Lying In Cash accelerated past the timer in 1:24.3. As they turned for home, Jets Sureshot came to make a race of it in the stretch, but it wasn’t enough as Lying In Cash held on to win by a quarter-length margin in 1:54. Jets Sureshot settled for second and Catch Me Conrad got up for third.
It was the 30th victory for the seven-year-old gelding who is bred, owned and trained by Techia Lohmann. The win pushed the career earnings for Lying In Cash to $201,386.
