Bax Speaks Out On Drummond Report

"Obviously, the government is looking everywhere for money," horseman John Bax has been quoted as saying, "so they're throwing this out there to see what kind of reaction they're going to get. I don't think they understand what's involved. We've got 60,000 people working in the industry."

Bax, who has been quoted in an article by mykawartha.com, is the most recent Ontario horse racing participant to offer his opinion on the controversial recommendations put forth in the Ontario Liberal Government's Drummond Report.

"For a lot of these people, horses [are] what they know," Bax continued. "They might not have the skills to go get a job somewhere else. What benefit would it be if you put 60,000 people out of work and then they're on the soup line?"

The article has also quoted horseman Rod Hughes, who, among other things, stated that, "The majority of people I've spoken to will basically walk away from the business" if the Ontario Liberals are able to make Drummond's horse-racing recommendation a reality.
