First Training Win For Matthews-Rennison
He came a nose shy of scoring his first victory as a trainer in his first start last week, but Ryder Matthews-Rennison etched a tally on his card on Sunday (April 16) at Flamboro Downs while making his second start as a trainer.
Matthews-Rennison sent Happy Looker last week to just miss in an $8,600 conditioned claiming event in 1:56. Once again taking the driving duties of Travis Cullen, Happy Looker powered first over against the same class and bounded clear to a 4-1/4-length victory in 1:56.3. He was sent off as the 7-5 favourite and paid $4.70 to win.
Having 97 starts as a driver with his first driving win coming in 2020, Matthews-Rennison hails from Truro, N.S. He took over training duties on Happy Looker from Mark Winacott and now has earned $6,450 as a trainer. As a driver, he won six races from 97 starts and earned $16,204 in purses.
