Shark Week Repeats; Sobey Grand Slams At Century
The five-year-old Vertical Horizon gelding Shark Week continued his reign of the $13,500 Preferred Pace on Saturday (April 15) at Century Downs with a 1:53 victory as the 1-5 favourite.
Leaving from the outermost post in the quintet, driver Michael Hennessy had little issue clearing command with Shark Week to a :27 first quarter and faced minimal worry. Stealing a breather to a :57 half, Shark Week upped the tempo to three-quarters in 1:25 and turned away a first-over bid from Sunshine Boy around the final turn to post a 1-3/4-length win over pocket-sitter Samba Beat. Armycaptin Hanover closed for third and Sunshine Boy settled for fourth.
Rod Hennessy trains and co-owns Shark Week, a 25-time winner and earner of $236,475, with Lorne Duffield. He paid $2.30 to win.
Trainer Nathan Sobey scored four victories on the 13-race card. His wins came with Over The Horizon (1:56.1 winning mile; $2.80 to win), Iris Seelster (1:59.2; $12.40), Shesmyinspiration (1:54.2; $4) and Miso Classy (1:53; $3.90).
