150 Nails Found In Track 'Sabotage'
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported that on Saturday, February 18, race officials received an anonymous phone call, 90 minutes prior to live racing at Ascot Park Raceway in Invercargill, which lead to the discovery of 120 lead nails on the track.
The article has also explained that an additional 30 nails were then found prior to the track's Sunday, February 19 live card. The racing officials have now been cited as describing the placing of the nails as 'acts of terrorism' against the racing industry.
New Zealand's chief stipendiary steward Cameron George was quoted as saying, "The consequences could have been catastrophic."
