Arizona, Howmacfiesty Keep Racking Up Wins
Four-year-old pacing mare Arizona won for fun on Friday night (April 14), extending her streak to five in a row at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
Driven by Tyler Borth in a $9,000 fillies and mares conditioned pace, Arizona took control at the :28.3 quarter and never looked back, setting middle splits of :58.2 and 1:26.3 en route to a dominant 3-1/4-length victory in 1:54.4. Rockabillycockshut (J Harris) and Lolas Sunshine (Anthony Haughan) followed back in second and third, respectively.
Heavily backed at the betting windows, Arizona paid $2.20 and was the first of back-to-back winners on the card for trainer Mike Timpano. Wendy Warren-Timpano and Herman Bardoel share ownership of the Up The Credit mare, who already has eight wins this season (among a group of Standardbreds ranking second-best in North America) and has finished no worse than fourth from a dozen starts.
Another mare that has racked up an impressive win count was in the spotlight during Friday's card as Howmacfiesty ($3.10) celebrated a career milestone, winning for the 50th time.
J Harris put the 10-year-old daughter of Carnivore on the point through fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.2, and she held on by half a length for a 1:57 victory competing against $8,500 claiming filly and mare pacers for Francis Guillemette, her 10th trainer through 263 career starts. Howmacfiesty, a career winner of more than $334,000, was racing for owner Steve Adams before being claimed for $10,625 by Robert Sims Jr.
