Proper One Reclaims Harrington Opening Night Success
Louis Tomczak Jr.'s Proper One has a good record on opening night at Harrington Raceway after paying $55.40 to win during the season opener on Monday (April 10).
The nine-year-old Proper Respect gelding won for the second straight year on the track's opening night, with a 1:55.1 triumph to kick off Harrington's 77th season of live harness racing in the first of 14 races on the program. The Carlo Poliseno trainee started the season in similar fashion last year when he was victorious as an even bigger longshot and paid $148 to win. A winner of nearly $500,000 lifetime, Proper One utilized a second-over trip to out-kick his rivals late for a narrow win in 1:55.1 over fellow longshot Silver Fox J and Win Not Lou.
In the $17,000 Junior Open feature, George and Tina Dennis' Wager On Me ($10.80, Mike Cole) was a 1:53.3 winner over Got The Mojo and Bodega Bay. The Joe Columbo trainee uncorked a :27.1 second last quarter to pass tiring rivals late for his fourth win of the year.
Montrell Teague had four winners on the card, including a pair each for Clyde Francis and Chuck Crissman Jr. Pat Berry and Corey Callahan each had a driving double.
Live racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
