John Wagner became the 80th driver in North American history to record 5,000 career victories thanks to a win with Marong A on Thursday at Dover Downs

Wagner tucked into the two-hole with Marong A and sat there until shortly past the quarter pole. Marong A, under Wagner’s marching orders, was on the move in front of the grandstand and in a matter of strides they were in charge of the pace. They led through panels of :58.2 and 1:28.1 before crossing the finish line in 1:59.2.

The veteran reinsman has sat behind winners in excess of $22 million in earnings. He put together nine consecutive million-dollar seasons from 1999 to 2007, and he enjoyed six consecutive seasons of winning more than 200 races from 2001 to 2006.
