So Much More Masters Mohawk Mares
Canada's reigning champion older pacing mare So Much More defeated the distaffers in her return to the Fillies & Mares Preferred class at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday night (March 24).
Following a successful stint against that boys that included a 1:49.3 win and two close second-place finishes, So Much More was assigned the outside post seven in Friday's $30,000 fillies and mares feature.
With regular reinsman James MacDonald in the bike, So Much More got away fourth behind a trio of early leavers as Lock Bridge (Louis-Philippe Roy) landed the lead by the :26 quarter pole over Style For A Mile (Doug McNair) and Need To Breathe (Travis Cullen).
After a :54.1 half, MacDonald made his move and sent the 1-5 favourite first-up. They had the pacesetter in their sights approaching three-quarters in 1:22.1 and powered by in the stretch for the 1:50 victory. Need To Breathe, winner of last week's Mares Preferred, got up for second, finishing three-quarters of a length behind, while Lock Bridge settled for third.
So Much More earned her 60th career win and boosted her bankroll over the $1.3 million mark lifetime for trainer Don Beatson, who shares ownership with son Kenn Beatson and grandson Cole England. The Big Jim-Ladysai mare sports a seasonal record reading 3-3-0 from eight starts with $83,900 banked already to start her seven-year-old campaign.
So Much More paid $2.60 to win and $2.10 to place. There was no show wagering.
