From Last To First For YS Delight
Tyler Moore and YS Delight definitely have a good thing going.
After the tandem clicked for a pair of wins in January at Flamboro Downs, YS Delight made the jump to the Preferred ranks at The Raceway at the Western Fair District where the six-year-old fared well for trainer Garry MacDonald and driver Paul MacKenzie but couldn't find the winner's circle in five starts after the jump in class.
On Monday (March 13) at Western Fair, Tyler Moore was reunited with YS Delight in the $13,000 Preferred Pace and the chemistry was both palpable and profitable.
With second choice Harpers Hat Trick (Travis Henry) making the decisions on the lead through sensible fractions of :28.4 and :59.1, the chances of a horse coming from second to last at the half to win seemed slim. Or last at three-quarters. But the field was only six lengths from front to back as the third station was reached in 1:27.4. Even in eighth, YS Delight didn't have an insurmountable deficit to make up at that point. Moore certainly felt that was the case, tipping five-wide around the final turn.
Harpers Hat Trick still had the advantage turning for home, but a wild six-across finish at The Raceway saw the horse last turning for home first for only one call in the mile — the one that mattered, the one on the finish line. YS Delight got up to win by a neck in 1:59.1. Prestige Seelster (Tyler Borth) nosed out Harpers Hat Trick for second.
Garry MacDonald of Dundas, Ont. trains and owns YS Delight (Bettors Delight - Kiss Baby Kiss), now a 15-time winner in his career with $102,282 in earnings. The six-year-old paid $23.20 to win.
