Moosette Motors In Fraser Open
Jim Marino trainee Moosette powered first over to a 1:53.1 win to take the $10,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace on Thursday night (March 9) at Fraser Downs as part of a hat trick for the trainer.
Miss Itunes took the top to a :26.2 first quarter with Century Mach settling into the pocket. She continued on an uncontested lead through a :56 half, but faced pressure up the backside when odds-on favourite Moosette blitzed first over towards three-quarters in 1:24.1. Moosette continued grinding at Miss Itunes all through the turn before sliding by and extending to a two-length victory in 1:53.1. In High Cotton followed her cover to take second with Hang On Sloopy finishing third.
A homebred for Shale Stables, Moosette won her 24th race from 69 starts and has now earned $178,078. The six-year-old mare by Hes Watching paid $3.50 to win.
Moosette’s victory came sandwiched to Marino’s other two training wins on the night. He won earlier in the evening with a pillar-to-post performance by Western Summit (1:55.2 winning mile; $6.50 to win) and later with Hotpieceoface (1:55; $4.80).
