Big Carryovers Headline Thursday Card At The Meadowlands
Carryovers in the Pick 5 and Pick 6 top the wagering opportunities Thursday night at the Meadowlands Racetrack.
The 50-cent Pick 5 begins in race one with a $27,470 carryover. In partnership with the USTA Strategic Wagering Program, the gross pool for Thursday’s Pick 5, including the carryover, is expected to be at least $100,000.
Last week was a record one for the Pick 5 at the Meadowlands. The Thursday and Friday cards produced the two highest Pick 5 pools ever for non-carryover days, $45,439 and $46,390, respectively, and the two highest payouts in the brief history of the wager, $27,259 and $27,831.
The average five-of-five payout this year has been $5,241 for 50 cents. Thursday marks the third carryover through the first 17 days of racing. A $16,000 carryover on Saturday, January 28 attracted a pool of $96,962.
The Pick 6, a $1 base wager, kicks off in Race 4. The $15,177 carryover is the highest of the meet and most since last year’s Hambletonian Elimination Day, when a $21,543 carryover attracted $33,005 in additional wagers and yielded the top 2011 Pick 6 payout of $41,322. The wager has paid out on six-of-six winners four times in 2012 with an average payout of $3,574.
